Costs ... and effectiveness
The costs and the effectiveness of malaria reduction programs are critical issues
relative to having success and doing it at a reasonable cost. Science is valuable
and cost information is valuable ... but they are very much more valuable when
combined in a rigorous analytical manner.
The mosquito and malaria science is complex, and not easy to simplify while retaining
the critical characteristics. This is all the more reason for including some of the
techniques of cost accounting and operations research into the planning and analysis
of performance.

Malaria
Malaria is a killer disease. According to WHO and UNICEF about 3,000
children die every day from malaria in Africa. Pregnant women are
also at risk of death from malaria. Malaria is a health crisis ... and one
that should never have been. Malaria can be prevented with techniques that
have been available for decades, but we have chosen up to now, not to use all
available tools, with the result that millions are dying needlessly
