Success in the USA
In the modern day most people have forgotten that the USA had endemic malaria, especially in the South. The four maps below show the areas with endemic malaria in 1882, 1912, 1932 and 1934. Malaria was virtually eradicated in the USA in the late 1940s early 1950s.

The map (top left) shows that in 1882, malaria reached all the way to the Canadian border, all the way up the Atlantic coast and was also in California. Some reduction in malaria prevalence had been achieved by 1912, but it was still throughout the South and remained so through 1932 and 1934. Malaria was eradicated in the United States in the decade following the Second World War. The only malaria cases in the United States today are those that are brought in by travellers.
